We can't really call it a vacation this year, but the months of July and August were quieter for Ella-Marie. Of course, work continued briskly in Pulderbos on rehabilitation, but now "real" school is getting a little closer again.
Enthusiasm
Every teacher will know: a school year does not start on
September 1, because the preparations have been going on for a long
time. And so we were also able to host 3 teachers from the IMG in
Pulderbos. The "old ones" (before getting into trouble with this,
this is not about age! :-) ) teachers and the "new" teacher of
Ella-Marie already visited to have a chat with Ella-Marie. She was
told that a classroom will be set up on the ground floor. They also
talked about the progress and future plans.
Mama Annelies watched the whole conversation happen and was pleased
to see how well Ella-Marie could answer. The adolescent monster
stayed in hiding for a while, leaving everyone to see a sweet, fun
and attentive Ella-Marie.
Timing
The relocation of the Pulderbos school to Heist-op-den-Berg will not yet be for immediately. Our friends at the Pulderbos rehabilitation center still see a (physical) progress possible, so work will continue for at least another 3 months. The ergo did tell us for the first time that the progress in the left arm is stagnating. It is now a matter of learning to live with the permanent paralysis. This means that Ella-Marie will have to learn to deal with it mentally, but also physically certain "tips and tricks" will have to be applied. For example, there are already some useful aids on the shopping list, including a toothpaste dispenser and an automatic lacing device.
6 months
Today is exactly 6 months since Ella-Marie underwent her surgery. In those 6 months, so many things have happened that it would take a blog to describe it all. What we especially remember is all the love and help we received from you. THANK YOU!
Last Tuesday, Ella-Marie was on a trip (restaurant visit in "Den Draver" in Zandhoven) with the group. One of the children unfortunately suffered a severe epileptic seizure. It was then that Ella-Marie said very sincerely: "How good that we had that operation".
And those words mean a lot to us, because the choice was not easy ... but it seems to be the right one.
